Locked Out of Google Workspace? How to Verify Your Domain in Under 3 Minutes

You’ve just set up your brand-new Google Workspace account, ready to streamline your business, only to hit a brick wall. You can’t add team members, you can’t create email aliases, and you’re completely locked out of your admin settings.

Don’t panic—you haven’t broken anything. This roadblock usually happens because you skipped the domain verification step during setup but it’s incredibly easy to fix.

In this quick guide, we’ll walk through how to manually verify your domain and unlock your account features in less than three minutes, without needing an IT degree.

The Step-by-Step Fix: Verifying Your Domain Manually

While Google offers automated tools for some domain hosts, doing it manually is the most reliable way to get the job done regardless of who you bought your domain from (Squarespace, Namecheap, GoDaddy, etc.).

Follow these steps to get your account fully operational.

Step 1: Grab Your Verification Code from Google

  1. Open a browser tab and log into the Google Admin Console at admin.google.com.
  2. Look at the very top of the home screen for an alert notification that says Verify your domain. Click it.
  3. Click Get Started.
  4. When prompted to select your domain host, choose Other to do it manually, then click Continue.
  5. Google will generate a single line of text called a TXT record. Copy this text value to your clipboard and keep this browser tab open.

Step 2: Add the Record to Your Domain Provider

  1. Open a brand-new browser tab and log into the account where you bought your website domain.
  2. Navigate to your Domain List and click on your specific domain name.
  3. Look for a menu item named DNS Settings, DNS Zone Manager, or Advanced DNS.
  4. Select the option to Add a New Record and set the record type to TXT.

Crucial Setup Note: > In the Host or Name field, type the @ symbol. If your specific domain provider throws an error when you do this, simply leave that field completely blank.

  1. In the Value, Answer, or Text Data field, paste the line of text you copied from Google.
  2. Look for the TTL (Time to Live) setting. Drop this down to the lowest possible value—either select the lowest option or type in 300 (which tells the system to update in 5 minutes).
  3. Click Save or Confirm Changes.

Step 3: Tell Google to Look for the Update

  1. Flip back to your open Google Workspace tab.
  2. Click the confirmation checkbox and click Confirm.

As soon as Google detects that new TXT record on your domain, the restrictions on your account will lift instantly.
