(When There’s No “Resend” Button)
Ever added a new employee to Google Workspace, only for them to miss the 48-hour signup window?
You log in to resend the invite, only to discover Google doesn’t actually have a “Resend” button. In this quick guide, I show you the two step fix to get them logging in fast.
The Missing “Resend” Button Problem
Setting up a new staff member is pretty straightforward. You create their account in Google Workspace, and Google automatically emails them an invite link to set up their password.
The catch? That link is only good for 48 hours.
And when you log into the Google Workspace Admin Console to resend it, you quickly realise: Google doesn’t provide a simple “Resend Invite” button.
So here is the exact step-by-step workaround to get them onboarded.
Step 1: Head to Your Admin Console
- Open your browser and go to
admin.google.com. - Log in with your administrator account.
Step 2: Locate the User
- From the main menu, navigate to Directory > Users.
- Find the person who hasn’t signed in yet.
Step 3: Reset the Password
- Hover your mouse over their name in the user list.
- Click Reset password.
- You will see two options: autogenerate a password or type your own.
Always select Automatically generate a password. It keeps things secure and saves you from coming up with temporary passwords on the spot.
Step 4: Send the Link to Their Personal Email
- Click Reset.
- In the pop-up window, click Email password.
- Enter the user’s external email address (their personal email address or the one they currently check).
- Check the box that says “Send copy to myself”.
Why send a copy to yourself? If the email gets caught in their spam filter, you have a copy sitting in your inbox. You can forward the link directly to them without having to repeat this process.
- Click Send.
Step 5: What Your Employee Needs to Do
Your new team member will receive an email containing a password reset button. To finish setting up, they simply need to:
- Click the Reset Password button in the email.
- Accept Google’s terms and conditions.
- Create their new permanent password.
This completes the initial setup process they missed the first time around.
Important Warning!
This new link also expires in 48 hours. Make sure your new hire is ready to log in before you send it!
